Parties and Packing… It’s becoming more real!

Wow. Work is now finished. Heartfelt goodbyes, a multitude of best wishes, questions, wonder and dare I say it – disbelief (on my part at least).   This is really happening.  It feels strange.  I’ve always worked, always striven to do the next job, the next milestone, and now I am stepping off the train and going in a different direction. It feels weird.  Am I really leaving a job and team that I love?  The answer is yes. I wonder if I will regret this later. I hope not. I miss you team!

Thankfully there are a LOT of tasks to accomplish which are keeping all of us busy.

The boat. Gavin has been full steam ahead with a dizzying list of errands, equipment and installations and it is finally coming together. Last weekend for the first time in months, I finally saw a glimmer of the boat we’d envisioned back in Oahu coming together. I know Gavin has been working on all the important parts that will keep us safe so the boat runs properly (ie. engine, inverter, solar panels, batteries, wiring, plumbing, gooseneck, boom rigging etc) however the new doghouse, stack-pack, and shiny floors are looking great to me. I like the aesthetic finishes. Still lots of polishing and bright-work to do and a myriad of other details to finish but we are getting there.

And there has been fun. Our Bon Voyage party was a blast. Thanks everyone! And lots of evening bbq’s with friends and dropping the kids off to school, sailing school and playdates has been a nice change for me. Shopping has been fun too!

And an overnight hike to Garabaldi Lake with the 9 year old boys was loads of fun. Thanks D, Gill and Sam – So much fun. Wow the boys are so fit.

The packing is endless. It feels good to get rid of things but worrisome as I ponder how the giant pile in our living room is going to fit into our boat.  And there is another pile in our garage too.  My sister always makes fun of my over packing tendencies which I am trying to contain. At least we are not on a catamaran which is the type of boat we’d contemplated purchasing earlier which are very weight sensitive.

I am envisioning how it will feel to pull out of Point Roberts and be on our way to actually ‘untie the dock lines’ and it is hard to believe. Still a lot to move and accomplish before then!

Yay summer!
